The Journey
Set within the Kent countryside, Mereworth is the main growing garden behind our approach to seasonal food, producing fruit, vegetables and herbs for the shelves and counters of The Hungry Guest, as well as our restaurants The Angel Inn and E.Street Bar & Grill.
It means that the relationship between our growers, chefs and customers is a little different. We’re not simply buying produce. We’re growing it.
Grown for Flavour
At Mereworth Market Garden, flavour, seasonality and variety are at the heart of what we grow. Varieties are chosen for taste and quality, with provenance, traceability and sustainability guiding how we work.
Our chefs work with the seasons rather than trying to make every ingredient available all year around. And because the garden is grown for our own kitchens and shop, our growers can have a direct conversation with the people who will cook and enjoy what they grow.
“With the freedom to grow an incredible range of fruit, vegetables and varieties, Mereworth gives the team the opportunity to experiment, taste and grow with flavour in mind.

Fran Chilet
Head Gardener

The garden is grown with flavour at its heart, with crops harvested as the seasons dictate. Being close to our kitchens means our growers and chefs can respond to what is growing, what’s tasting good and what’s coming next.
At The Angel Inn and E.Street Bar & Grill, this connection comes to life through dishes, menus and seasonal specials inspired by what’s growing at Mereworth. This autumn, expect the flavours of the garden to make their way onto the menu — fresh, seasonal and full of character.
