We are delighted to introduce the very first edition of our Art & Wine Series, a unique two-day programme exploring the intersection of art, wine, taste, and storytelling.

Taking place during the final week of Jane Bown: Play Shadow, now extended until 19 April, this special event offers guests a rare opportunity to experience the exhibition in its closing days while discovering the cultural connections between art and wine.

We are honoured to partner with Dr Christina Makris, author, speaker and specialist in the cultural world of food and wine, together with Nyetimber, one of England’s leading sparkling wine producers.

Full two-day programme: £225.50 per person

Includes:
Thursday 16 April: Gallery Talk with Christina Makris, Dinner at E. Street Bar & Grill
Access to the Jane Bown: Play Shadow Exhibition
Friday 17 April: Nyetimber Tour and Lunch at Angel Inn Petworth.
Transport to and from Petworth to Nyetimber Estate.

Thursday 16 April
Art, Taste & Storytelling

The programme begins at Newlands House Gallery with an engaging salon-style talk led by Dr Christina Makris. Image-rich and conversational, the evening explores the idea of taste, both literal and cultural, and how we decide what is refined, desirable, or worth collecting.

Drawing from her fieldwork with artists, winemakers and restaurants, Christina reveals how food and wine are not merely accompaniments to culture, but cultural expressions in their own right.

Following the talk, guests are warmly invited to continue the evening with dinner at E. Street Bar & Grill.

Christina Makris Talk Only: £25
Talk + Dinner at E. Street Bar & Grill: £95

Locations:
Newlands House Gallery

Friday 17 April

The second day offers a rare behind-the-scenes visit to Nyetimber, one of England’s most celebrated sparkling wine estates.

Guests will enjoy a guided vineyard and winery tour, followed by a tasting of Nyetimber’s acclaimed sparkling wines. The experience concludes with lunch at The Angel Inn, offering the opportunity to reflect on the journey from vineyard to glass.
